Stone, aggregates and recycled rubble
Construction materials for infrastructure and landscaping projects
Bryn Aggregates
Part of the Bryn Group
We produce a wide range of aggregates for construction and landscaping uses. Products include reclaimed sandstone dust and sand, recycled 0-40mm Type 1 and graded sandstone chippings, right through to our ‘gold standard’ PSV68 high specification sandstone and SUTRA grade road surfacing.
The quarry
Quarrying has taken place at the Bryn for centuries – the farmhouse and neighbouring manor house, Llancaiach Fawr, are both thought to have been built from locally quarried stone in the 1500s.
Quarrying recommenced in the 1990s and, since then, the scarce high specification blue pennant sandstone aggregate found at the Bryn has been on major infrastructure projects and road safety improvements across South Wales and beyond.
The quarry is one of less than a dozen sites in the UK where the specific type of aggregate needed for motorway and busy junctions can be found. Its unique hardness and shape when crushed means it reduces skidding and lasts for many more years than other road surfacing products
