Waste management and recycling

Zero waste going to landfill.

Bryn Recycling

We are one of the largest independent recycling companies in South Wales. We started recycling inert waste in the 1980s to reclaim old colliery workings on our land in order to provide better grazing for our dairy herd.

We now process between 80,000 – 100,000 tonnes of waste materials and food from local councils, companies and communities every year to eradicate the use of landfill.

For more information about partnering with us to manage your waste, please get in touch.

The waste hierarchy

It is a fact of life that humans consume resources and create waste but, by working with Bryn Group, you can reduce the impact of waste, and ensure valuable resources are used and reused properly.

Our Zero to Landfill policy means that everything you send to use is either reused (e.g. bicycles, furniture, toys), recycled (e.g. metals, textiles, plastics, paper, green and food waste) or recovered (e.g. non-recyclable items, biomass).

Nothing goes to landfill. Ever. If we can’t process it ourselves, we use a third-party specialist. We accept all non-hazardous waste, including clean hardcore, earth and stone, wood, green and food waste, factory waste and general skip waste. We aim to offer the simplest recycling service possible.

What we process

We are permitted to process most non-hazardous materials, which means we don’t handle batteries, oils or asbestos. We also use specialist third parties for certain items, such as tyres and invasive plants (Japanese knotweed).

We take recycling from a variety of sources including council doorsteps collections and amenity sites, commercial contracts and businesses, skip waste and some smaller independent companies.

Typically, materials we handle include:

  • Building rubble (skips)

  • Wood – furniture, pallets, planks, MDF, over-sized trees

  • Furniture – table, chairs, sofas, mattresses, carpets, shelves

  • Plastic

  • Metal

  • Paper and cardboard

  • Glass

  • Plasterboard

  • Miscellaneous – toys, shoes, clothes, rope, balls

Products

The circular economy is a worldwide marketplace, but we work hard with our agents to ensure materials leaving our facility end up back in the construction, production or manufacture, and not in the environment.

We supply:

  • Bailed plastics – all grades

  • Cardboard

  • Plasterboard and gypsum

  • Wood Chip

  • Metals

  • Textiles

  • Recycled stone – clean 3” and 4”, crush and run, sub-base

  • Compost – 40mm, 28mm and <10mm

  • Top soil – Grade 1 and 2

Green waste composting

Another of our companies, Bryn Compost processes and composts green waste from council doorstep collections and amenity sites to produce British Standard PAS100 compost products, which are peat-free and suitable for a wide range of horticultural and landscaping applications.

Our outdoor windrow composting piles are managed to regulatory standards and best practice procedures to ensure our safe, aerobic composting process turns organic green waste into high-quality compost in around 16 weeks.

To talk to us about managing your green waste or to purchase compost, please get in touch.
