About Bryn Group

Based at our family farm in Gelligaer, Bryn Group has grown from a small operation in the 1980s that sorted inert building rubble for our own use to becomes one of the leading waste management, recycling and renewable energy companies in South Wales.

We work with local councils, businesses and communities to help them manage a wide range of non-hazardous waste and return those materials to use.

Over the past two decades, we have invested more than £10 million on new facilities, environmental management, improved facilities, and our state-of-the-art Anaerobic Digester.

Our partnership and contracts with local councils has seen us develop services to meet local needs, and help Wales become one of the world’s leading recycling nations.

Our quarry on the Bryn, from which our name is taken, is the source of a scarce sandstone aggregate that is used to ensure roads across Wales are safer and more hard-wearing. By combining on-site access to aggregates and waste tipping, we also help utility companies keep the lights on, water flowing and homes heated.

History of Gelliargwellt Uchaf Farm

The Price family first came to Gelliargwellt Farm in 1902. Since then, five generations have lived and worked on the dairy farm and other businesses. What started as a typical mixed farm over the years has diversified and grown to one of the leading recycling centres in South Wales. Today, the group employs a 111-strong workforce, providing essential waste management and quarrying services.

Recycling

Bryn Recycling accepts a mix of non-hazardous wastes from builder rubble to amenity site skips. These wastes are then sorted, processed and distributed as products ready for reuse or energy recovery.

Aggregates

Bryn Aggregates produces a variety of high specification sandstone products for the construction industry at our blue pennant sandstone quarry. We also process building rubble to produce recycled 0-40mm Type 1 and backfill products.

Renewable Energy

Bryn Power processes food waste from different sources and cattle slurry to produce renewable electricity and British Standard certified digestate biofertiliser. We also have solar PV panels on many of our buildings to minimise our use of power stations.

Farming

Price & Co Farming is where it all began, and remains an integral part of life at Gelliargwellt Uchaf. Milk from our prize-winning Holstein Friesian herd is sold as milk in Sainsbury’s stores across South Wales.

Environmental management

We work hard to minimise and mitigate our impact on the environment, with projects ranging from planting more than 100,000 trees across our land and our long-term management of Waun Rydd peat-bog.
